TS: I’m here with Pasha Diallo, Female Model of
the Month for eXcape the matriX Magazine. How are you this evening?
PD: I’m good and blessed.
TS: I hear that, I just have a few questions to ask you.
PD: I’m ready.
TS: Okay, first question, who is Pasha Diallo?
PD: Pasha Diallo is a woman, wife, mother and nurse who is trying to do big things in the modeling industry.
TS: With you being a mother and you being in the fashion industry as a model, how are you able to juggle it all?
PD: I have a good support system.
TS: I believe you need to have a support system.
What does your support do for you?
PD: Helps with the household, kids, finances and offers encouragement.
TS: What are your dreams?
PD: My dream is to become a star. I want to be a successful full-figured model and actress. I want my name to be on the tip of everyone’s’ tongue.
TS: Who inspires you?
PD: I like Queen Latifah, Monique and my friend Mia, that’s in the
modeling industry, is a huge inspiration.
TS: How did you get into modeling?
PD: I got a big break for the Ashley Stewart Campaign for the 2005 Fall Season. I also knew that I needed something to fall back on so I decided to be a nurse.
TS: Have you ever had any professional training in the modeling industry?
PD: No, I have not. It was more like baptism by fire. I believe that if you can get some training it will help you in the long run.
TS: When did you know that modeling was something that you wanted to do?
PD: I’ve always known it but I wasn’t in a financial place to do anything about it. I had to focus on a 9-5 and my family but once I got situated and balanced everything it was all systems go from there.
TS: How long have you been modeling?
PD: I’ve been modeling for two years. Everything has been a whirlwind for me.
TS: Is there a difference between being a full figured model than a petite model? Why or why not?
PD: I think there are some differences and similarities. I think that the similarities are that you still need to be on top of your game such as looking nice, good walk, good skin, good teeth, healthy hair but as far as the competitiveness, there’s not as much with full figured models as petite models. There are so many more petite models than full figured models. I like the feeling of being a big fish in a small pond and instead of a small fish in a big pond. It’s like sisterhood with full figured models because we are all trying to help each other out.
TS: I do feel it’s more of a sisterhood with full figured models because it’s making an impact on the fashion industry. Me, personally I’m a full figured model’s biggest fan. I love a full figured model’s confidence and personality.
PD: Full figured models are definitely making a huge impact on the industry. We are definitely here to stay.
TS: What are your views with the whole weight issue for models?
PD: I think the main thing with the whole weight issue is that you need to be happy with yourself. You need to be able to maintain a healthy body.
TS: Does Pasha Diallo have any other talents besides modeling?
PD: (Sings) I’m a singer. (Laughs) I sing and I’m pursuing acting.
TS: Oh, okay you are a singer and actress. Anything current coming up for you.
PD: Currently, I’m starring in an independent movie called “Dodge City”. Director is Francis Xavier the movie should be coming out in April.
TS: Okay, well everyone look out for that. Next
question, why do you want to be a full figured model?
PD: I love the whole glamorous aspect of it. I think every woman/girl wants to be a star. We love to get our makeup done, hair styled and have a wonderful wardrobe stylist like Teronce Styyles that makes you look and feel like a model. At the end of the day it’s all about you.
TS: What makes you different from other models?
PD: Besides looks alone, I believe my determination, desire and hunger for this industry.
TS: Where do you see yourself as a model or in the modeling industry?
PD: I would love to give back to others. Maybe get into fashion designing, coaching others who are trying to get into the modeling industry.
TS: Do you feel that the modeling industry is competitive?
PD: I think modeling is very competitive but not like petite modeling. I think it needs to be competitive so models can stay on top of their game and work hard.
TS: What advice would you give to upcoming full figured models?
PD: This might be cheesy but if you believe you can do it than you need to put your mind to it and achieve that dream. Just don’t fall into the trap of thinking that because you are a full figured model that you don’t have to keep yourself up. Always put your best foot forward. This should go for any model.
TS: Before we go Pasha, is there anything else you want the viewing audience to know?
PD: (Laughs) I would like to thank you for helping me and providing me with information, guidance and critiques. You are very encouraging to everyone that you come around. I want to thank those photographers who were willing to photograph me when a lot of photographers wouldn’t because I’m a full figured model. I want to thank Howard G for taking a chance and casting me in many plays. I want to thank Ashley Stewart for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to prove that I have what it takes to be a full figured model. Thank you to everyone who has had some positive influence on me.
TS: Thank you, Pasha, for doing this interview with me. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule.
PD: Thank you, darling. Bye bye now.
