The Chrysalis: The Rebirth of Michelle Antoinette

I always tell my staff it’s important to be honest when writing your articles. As a journalist our job is to get out the facts. When we’re in this mode we are not friends to anyone, but truth tellers, even if it’s our truth. So that means that when it comes to reviews we must be honest. If artist just so happen to be friends of ours it’s important that we understand that we can’t applaud work that we honestly don’t like….

Thankfully that isn’t the case with LOVE the Poet’s 3rd cd. I can honestly say this raises the bar. It speaks to me on so many levels. Michelle Nelson has stepped the game up and infused music and spoken word perfectly.

LOVE pulled together a great team of producers to make this 3rd cd hot. After LOVE’s “Welcome” she, B-more Soul Slinger Wordslave, her father G.C. Nelson and Stinkface Music producer Mo-Rece start the cd off right with “Introspect”. “Aphrodite I might be/but Isis gets more respect/so I pick up the pieces and place a peck upon your neck” This track has a deep spiritual yet upbeat and positive feel. This is the perfect track to start off the cd.

I believe this cd has 2 title tracks. One is obvious and the other hidden. “The Chrysalis” (Produced by Salem “Strk9” Brown) is a Testimony in which Michelle Antoinette has been reborn from LOVE the poet. While I’ve found that this track speaks to a lot of people it doesn’t hold a candle (In my eyes) to “Judgement”. This track could bring anyone to tears. The power and the passion that LOVE brings to this piece is so heart felt and true it resonates with me every time I hear it. LOVE bares her soul on this track as she tells the tale of the woman she is and how those who love her don’t necessarily respect or accept things about her that she simply can’t help. The brilliance in this sister is that even though some of her loved ones would condemn her, she still has nothing but love for them. This track is a must hear for anyone who wants to hear what true pride and will power sounds like.

I have a personal favorite track. On the piece entitled “Symphony” LOVE weaves beautiful words over a track filled with a hypnotic violin (My fav instrument) provided by Mo-rece. With the lovely Phoenix on vocals this track is an ode to the mesmerizing combination of great music and great spoken word…..but to me it’s deeper than that. See she has an almost entire verse in there that speaks to my soul and has made it so the entire song is like a theme to for me…. “Give me your energy, see you have an impact on me, thank you for just listening, embracing history cuz it’s in the making, see audience appreciation is life sustaining and it doesn’t have to be too many. Maybe just one can feel me and I fulfill my destiny. See you are love to me and I give love to you equally, pouring out every little bit of energy to let you know this life ain’t been no crystal stair for me, just like it ain’t been for you and you are not alone in this world we are all going through, so don’t worry….”

This sister has always touched me. I’ve enjoyed every gift she’s created but she’s gone somewhere else this time. So if you’re reading this Michelle, I thank you. I thank you for pouring your soul into this cd and not being afraid to be raw and bare in front of everyone. To you dear reader, it isn’t a matter of IF you should cop this cd….it’s WHEN.
