Exciting Summer Vacations

I figured I would skirt by this article since I can’t really say that I’ve had a “summer vacation” that I recall. Up through high school my summers consisted of staying up until 2 or 3 and sleeping past noon. Ahh the good life. That was enough of a vacation for me seeing as how I was never a morning person. Who gets up at 7am? It always felt wrong. Of course now that I get up at 5:30 am that seems like a distant sweet dream. Back on topic ..

puerto ricoIn mid-April of 2007, a friend and I went on a 5 day trip to Las Vegas. I went on a work conference but guests were invited (provided they paid for travel) and there was plenty of room in our individual suites. Walking around Vegas makes you feel as if you were on a movie set. There are people everywhere and buildings stretching so far up you just know they have to be made of Styrofoam. But no, they are real and they go for miles. Between the endless buffets, shows, casinos and shops, there was too much to be seen in only 4 days. There were even some options to site-see and take a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon. I’ll be heading back there this year and I can’t wait. Nothing like a vacation on someone else’s dime!

Puerto RicoLater that June I was lucky enough to be dragged to Puerto Rico by a buddy of mine. SO glad I went. There is absolutely nothing negative to say about the trip. If you get home-sick you can find McDonalds, Wendy’s and Subway nearby. The general population is bilingual (they speak Spanish and English) and the US dollar is accepted. The weather is phenomenal and the island is extremely beautiful. The one or two times in which it did rain, the ground dried off in minutes. The group and I stayed in Old San Juan and every morning we had the pleasure of breakfast at a local spot, for $6 dollars, and a breath-taking view of the ocean. If you need a spot to relax, watch the ocean and see what retirement is like, head right on over to Puerto Rico.
