Review of Houlihans

This past mother’s day was spent at the newly discovered restaurant called Houlihans. I had been to this wonderful place two times prior and the food is always exceptional and timely so it seemed like an ideal spot to gather the family for a special day. Just before noon, to my surprise, I walked in the door to find my mom, grandmother, aunt, sister and her boyfriend already seated and laughing away their cares. “That was fast”, I thought, certainly won’t look a gift-horse in the mouth. The entire experience turned out to be a gift.

The staff was friendly and courteous as usual and our past waitress, Aisha, remembered us. Though I guess that’s easy to do considering how much of a goofball we are. Whether it’s talking about sign-language or discussing the origins of the key-lime, no topic seems to be off limits. A round of applause goes to our latest waiter, Donnie, he was a great sport.

Our meal started out with appetizers of various soups and salads and the entrees were a hefty mix of: Crabcakes with French fries and greens, beef pot-roast with mashed potatoes and thin onion rings times three, spicy tilapia with mashed sweet potatoes and fried Shrimp. There was not one frowning person at the table.

Drinks: Where else can you buy three martinis for $9? ... no wait, don’t tell me. Whether it’s a classic cosmopolitan, a blue sky or key-line pie martini, the three tini selection is a great choice. Smaller than normal but as the old saying goes “it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the dog”. Any Coming To America fans here? WOOF that’s a good drink!

The dessert was picked from Houlihan’s “Fabulous Five” menu - chocolate banana pudding, s’mores, a banana cream pie served inside a waffle-like cone dish and something else covered the dessert tray as all our eyes widened once again. You know the food is good when you can find a folk in everyone’s hand.

Considering all the food we packed away, everything came to a modest $177. Appetizers, meal, desserts and drinks for roughly $30 a person; that gets a thumbs up. What I enjoy the most about Houlihans is just how much food you get for your orders. You won’t leave hungry or wanting more, as a matter of fact you will probably have a carryout container. This is my Cheesecake Factory! Great food, affordable prices and hardly ANY waits. Table for 1+ please!
