On Saturday, May 5, 2007 I conducted a runway class and gave 8
students from John Casablanca an assignment, asking them what unity
meant to them and how it ties into fashion. Three guys and five girls
participated in this assignment.
I have to say that they really took the
time to express their views and they were so excited when I told them
that their assignment would be featured in the June/July Unity Issue. So
as promised, here are the 8 unity assignments from my John Casablanca
Students.
Eric Fotso
Unity is very important to me because I feel that when 2 or 3 people get together they can come up with a new product or design. For example, in fashion people make a lot of money in design. So, if two people get together they can create a perfect design based on their ideas.
Joshua Hengel
Unity means people working together as one to achieve a common goal.
It works in fashion because you need designers, seamstresses, make up
artists and models all working together to present the clothing as best
as they can be presented.
"When you put two designers together to work in unity it gets done and
you look fabulous."
Trevor Stander
Unity is a joint effort to create a flow of ideas by designers
Nicole Rutledge
To me unity means being whole and together. In the fashion industry it means coming together and working as one. Creating something that can some how unify all of us in one way or another. What better way to do that then by fashion, which is something we all have and use.
Tyreeona Foster
Unity ties into fashion because every model works together to help promote that certain type of fashion out there so that people will know it’s the real thing. It helps bring in different types of styles that are up and coming.
Unity to me means that people are coming together to create
something. For instance in the fashion industry designers work together
to create new clothing lines. By them working together they create what
can be the latest fashion trend to America or other countries.
"Unity reflects fashion because in the fashion industry, sometimes you
need two different styles to make it look more unique and different."
Shabria Alexander
Unity is working together. And where does it fall into fashion you ask? Everywhere! If you think about it, Urban fashion with Couture fashion do go together. When you put two designers together to work in unity, it gets done and you look fabulous.
Sharonda Mobuary
Unity reflects fashion because in the fashion industry, sometimes you need two different styles to make it look more unique and different. It’s best to have more than one look. You want to look stylish in one way and look stylish in another way so that’s why you need to have unity in style.
