“My Ravolution”

Most of us know that every New Year, it’s traditional to make a New Year’s Resolution. Unfortunately it’s also a tradition not to follow it or really have any intentions on doing so. This is where my Ravolutions come in. It leaves me very little room for neglect.
My Ravolution for the 2008 year will be, simply, to revisit my artistic side. Sure I’m in school, and I could take the easy way out and say “I will get my associate’s degree next year” and list all the steps I could of have already taken to make it so. But this has been pulling at me, deep within my soul. Signs have been popping up everywhere and the simple urge to be where I used to be artistically has been stronger than ever.
This isn’t to say that I want to be exactly where I was in the past. My mind and heart have changed a lot since then. After reading my old poetry, my reactions to it ranged from embarrassment to “wow!” The “wow!” came from the sheer volume of my writings. I wrote everyday it seemed, and despite the lack of direction, there was a passion that was there that I haven’t seen for years. I even looked at writing for this magazine as a love, but it wasn’t where I knew I could take it.
Following my heart and what God has told me through prayer, I will pick up my pen once again and create. I will not only create from my soul, I will tell a story through my poetry. I will dedicate myself to it as I have everything else I love so much this past couple of years. No matter where it takes me, I will have it. I will rediscover this passion for the written word that I miss so much. This is my Ravolution.
