EXCAPE THE MATRIX / FREE YOUR MIND

I Can See in Color

Written by: MARKEZZACKUI

“If April showers brings flowers, then I need, I need more rain… to quench the drought in me, so rain on me, rain on me….I can see in color, the first signs of spring- the Rosebuds are blooming, I’ve got a new song to sing…”- Mary J. Blige, “I Can See in Color”

This song from Mary J. Blige really resonates with me. The last few months of my life have been incredible in many aspects. Most days, I go on blind faith. There’s something way deep inside me that lets me know that more is available to me. All I have to do is continue to have faith and work towards my ultimate goal.

The colors are desirable, so I have begun to remain consistent in my effort because of the sense of accomplishment I receive by sometimes sitting back and really observing and appreciating the way in which my entire world I beginning to grow…

“If April Showers brings flowers, then I need, need more rain… to quench the drought in me, so rain on me, rain on me…”

For me, I interpret this song lyric as the willingness to accept life and the difficulties that come with it. I feel very strongly that with each challenge there comes a blessing; one that is self-fulfilling and has little to do with monetary gain. It’s the basic understanding that with every great purpose comes a challenge just as great. Strength, self-esteem, and the power to propel forward gains momentum with each journey through whatever the struggle may be. Whether it takes 1 day or 1 year to get through, one feels sure of one’s self after all is said and done. Perseverance causes and assists us to grow, granted we are willing. So, if my growth stems from the challenges (April showers), then bring them on because I am equipped with rain coat and umbrella and am determined to wait out the rain in order to bask in the precious warmth of the sunlight, and enjoy the growth of the seeds previously planted. I need the rain because I need to test my own self and see what ingredients mesh tighter to make one MARKEZZACKUI. I need the rain to keep me alert, I need the rain to keep me hungry for more, and, finally, I need the rain in order to understand and appreciate the blessings good weather may bring. Lyrically speaking.

“I can see in color, the first signs of Spring- the rosebuds are blooming, I’ve got a new song to sing…”

Why this lyric stands out for me is because it reveals what my life is like right now. It’s almost as if everywhere I look there lays a great opportunity for me to receive the practice I need to become the man I desire to be. It hasn’t always been this way. There have been plenty days where my hard work appeared to be going unnoticed, and all I had was faith… faith that someone somewhere was hearing my heart as I put it on paper. I had faith that someone somewhere could hear my voice as it spilled over my page in the form of blue ink.

Today, I am constantly seeing signs that reassure me that I am on the right path. I can see it in color, which is really a beautiful thing. Opportunity is like the brightest reds, oranges, and greens the mind can imagine. The colors are desirable, so I have begun to remain consistent in my effort because of the sense of accomplishment I receive by sometimes sitting back and really observing and appreciating the way in which my entire world is beginning to grow. I can see in color that my dreams are well on their way into my reality!
