EXCAPE THE MATRIX / FUTURE

Never Saw The Eyes Of The Evil

Submitted by: Jordan Brown, 6th Grade Glenmont Middle
Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

Never saw the eyes of the evil
Look into the night and all you see is the eye of the people

Trying so hard to be equal
They say in God they trust in God they must

Snakes on the grass so they stay on the pavement
Like dead men and dead cavemen

Their only friend is Amen so they praise him
Life is hard when struggling cause you went there and you’re not trying to go again

But they say life is like a broken mend
I pray to God so I can find my way

Because I’m not trying to die today
I go through my day tomorrow and all the haters try to do is bring me sorrow

Hopefully I’ll see the light of tomorrow
I try my best to past the life test but yet

The men on the street try so hard to bring that heat
They think being in a gang is so joyful

But when they join
They life is being played like a toy

See I never saw the eyes of the evil
But I saw the love for my people

Is It An Opinion Or Fact

Submitted by: Monica James, 6th Grade Collington Square School of the Arts
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

Love what is it?
Love is the thing that keeps
Everything circulating
Love what it is
L-Loyal
O-Outstanding
V-Valuable
E-Extra Special

Love what is it?
Love is like an iron fist
It will knock you down
It will help you up

Love can be what it can be
Love can be what it wants to be
Love, Love, Love is a wonderful thing
Love is something you adore
Love is something that keeps you going back for more

Love what is it?
Love is anything you make it

I Have Love

Submitted by: Yamaya Henderson, 5th East Baltimore Community School
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

Look and see who there is for you
Look out and see who is the Opposite of what you want
Victory because you know who took your heart
Finally you got someone who met your Expectations
He finally looks like part of your life

Remix

After all the love I gave
Only thing they told me was to behave
When I told them to hold my stuff
They sold it
I said stop hating because you just faking
And after all the love I gave away
the only thing you did was through it in my face
and hoped I’d forever fade away
I hate to love to love to hate
But hating aint my protégé
Love is for the unforgiving way
For those who will forever fade away

Poverty

Submitted by: Kaiya Johns, 5th Grade City Springs School
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

People on the streets selling drugs
What they really need are hugs
People say no
But when they sell drugs
They be getting that dough
And people let them do it

We’re on this earth to live a life
I love my neighborhood
But too many negative people are in it
It’s a shame
Some people call it a crime
Little girls cursing world going round
This is the story in my town

Submitted by: Danae Kennedy, 5th Grade East Baltimore Community School
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

My name is Danae and I love myself
Anyway let me tell you about myself

I am a dancing diva
Singing loud and proud
Shopaholic seeing movies helicopter hearing
Going to church seeing my friends
Everyday partying like a rockstar
Loving my friends missing Tatianna
Kinda girl

L-Leaving friends… never that
O-Observing that these crazy kids do
V-Very emotional
E-Everything you would want in a girl

This might not be the typical poem
But you know
My name is Danae
And I love myself all the way

Bright Summer

Submitted by: Ciara Hawkins, 5th Grade Collington Square School of the Arts
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

I love strawberries
Strawberries are sweat and red as a fire truck
Some are darkish red

I love cherries too
Cherries are delicious
And juicy as a watermelon

In the summer it’s hot
Sun beams dance at the beaches
And also six flags

You Feel My Pain

Submitted by: Sierra Fallin, 6th Grade Friendship Academy
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

Love is a game that’s hard to play
When you play in it alone it’s such a lonely day
When your grandmother forgets your name
You start to cry you don’t know why
You feel my pain

The love for those is like a petal off of a rose
When I am about to dose
Thinking about those I really really love and about the ones I don’t
But now I’m going a little insane
You feel my pain

Don’t drop a tear for me
Because deep down inside your heart is pouring out tears
This is a true story so if you don’t believe me
I don’t really care
But just go ask somebody who knows me
And they’ll tell you how I went a little bit more insane
Now I really know you are feeling my pain

Because now you know that love can also be called pain
You feel my pain

Love

Submitted by: Jordan West, 6th Grade City Springs School
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

What is love?
Is it a feeling or an action?

Love is what pumps the world like an engine
Love is the torch that leads you through the darkness of life
Love is the color red rushing through your veins
Pumping through your body
Love is caring and sharing for your family and others
Love is seeing a beautiful rainbow across the sky
Love is dancing when there is no music being played
These are just a few feelings and actions that show us love
Do you agree?

Tough Love

Submitted by: James Baytop, 6th Grade City Springs School
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

Never pay the rent on time
They can’t afford a dime
Poverties killing junkies and crack heads stealing
Kids hope and pray for a better life
Kids see their father beat his wife
Mothers an addict
Get so dramatic when she can’t have it
Living in a house with no soap
All their mother do is smoke that dope
Their father is abusing
They never see the precious moments they kids are losing
Their farther got caught up in the hood
Word going round their farther is no good
Mama overdosed three times
Kids look at it and call it a crime
The kid’s hungry all the time
Mother says lay down and ease your minds
Whole time she in stress
In the kitchen saying this crack is the best
Father out all night
Come in looking like he was in a fight
He said gangbangers beat me
Hospitals won’t treat me
They said I was too poor
Didn’t open up a door
I see why where dying
Aint nobody trying
Later that night kids saw an awful fight
Mama on the floor with blood from her mouth
Gangbangers in the house
Shot up they father and raped his youngest daughter
This is where the story ends
With kids on the street no shoes on their feet
No family to support them
Nobody there to open a door of opportunity for them
And this is their story

Life and Love

Submitted by:  Ariea Hughes, Ta’Shawn Miles & La’Quan Jennings aka A.T.L.,
6th Grade Collington Square School of the Arts
East Higher Achievement Center, Baltimore, MD

I won’t stop till I get it right
I won’t fight till I get it right
I won’t die till I get it right

(Ariea)
I’m that kid from 98 my life is amazing even great
Achieving dreams by any means what can I say it’s just my faith
I love my life my shining light and won’t stop till I get it right
My life is different a different kind of unit
The way I see it there’s nothing to it
My life is amazing
My life is crazy
My life is never hazy
I love my life so much
It’s some kind of magic or like a magic touch
As a kid my life is good
I did some things that I never thought I could
My life got a style check it out right now
My life don’t need to be fixed
I love my life the way it is
My flow is so sick now I’m performing on the May of 6th

(Ta’Shawn)
I’m that kid from 97 I’ve been the best since I was 11
Want to know how tight I am that my view looks up at heaven
I learned that love is possible it surely is not stoppable
Messing with me is un-try-able most girls say I’m likeable
I’m the king with the bling once you hear my raps you’ll sing
Believe it or not I got dreams so just put me on the team
Life is such a disease which makes me believe
That all my themes can come in one and be in peace
Here is my story wanted to represent it most importantly
But it sounds right sounds tight
And I’m a still fight until I get it right

(La’Quan)
I’m that kid that has a dream
Me and my family are a team
My life has lots of people in it
The world is yours so I got to spin it
I’m on cloud 9 and my life is always fine
I want to fly someday I always wanted to shine someway
I got to restart like tying my shoes
my old personality is gone this is new news
my raps are tight and you know it’s true
I’m in the clouds so high seeing the clouds and the blue
Seeing the angels above me and the heavens too
I said my raps are tight and you know it’s true
And I won’t stop the fight until I get right
So how about you

I won’t stop till I get it right
I won’t fight till I get it right
I won’t die till I get it right
