Wistful Romance:
A Pisces P.O.V
Written by: Melliflo Daughtry
Wistful- full of yearning or desire tinged with melancholy
We can’t be friends, Love and I. Ever since I can remember; Love has played the most distasteful of jokes on me. Anyone born on/between the dates of February 20th and March 20th has, no doubt, suffered at Love’s hand.
As a Pisces, we have been wired to work hard, dream big, and love relentlessly. Our hearts are just as big as our spirits are. At times, the latter of the four comes back to bite us. I’ve given my heart away only to have it returned in pieces more times than I care to admit. This is not to say that I fall in love with every guy that I meet. There has been a couple that possessed qualities that captured my heart and held it for a ransom that, no matter how hard I tried, I was unable to pay. Eventually, my heart was returned to me, but it always came back a bit more damaged than it was before. I’ve been on a life long journey to find my healer.
Pisces are delicate and emotional creatures. We’re almost like the unicorns of the zodiac. We are very spiritual, psychically in-tune beings and, often times, we think with our hearts more than our minds…
When I was a sophomore in high school, I stumbled across this book titled Maria Shaw’s Book of Love. With me being an impressionable and incredibly love-struck 16 year-old at the time, that was like finding the Holy Grail, and I studied it as such. It has a description of every zodiac sign. The book also provides the compatibility of each sign to the others based on a scale of 1 to 5 in five categories. Those categories are: Attraction, Compatibility, Communication, Friendship, and Marriage Material. So, according to this book, Pisces is best matched with other water signs (Cancer, and Scorpio, with Pisces being the third) and earth signs (Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo); as opposed to fire signs (Sagittarius, Aries, and Leo) and air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius).
Now, as a Pisces, I am inclined to approach life with openness and optimism. Meaning that, despite the odds, I won’t let this book dictate who I take interest in. Though I believe the text holds many valid and interesting points, I also believe that there is an eXception to every rule. For instance, I pursued a Sagittarius (fire) and got my feelings hurt. But, I also pursued a Capricorn (earth) and I got hurt then, too.
We cannot deny our big hearts, our desire to be your hero, and feel needed…
Pisces are delicate and emotional creatures. We’re almost like the unicorns of the zodiac. We are very spiritual, psychically in-tune beings and, often times, we think with our hearts more than our minds. However, because Pisces is the 12th and final sign of the zodiac, I find that we embody not only those traits, but traits from each of the 11 signs that come before it, as well. Each of us has our own unique balance of said traits, regardless; we cannot deny our big hearts, our desire to be your hero, and feel needed. There are times when I catch myself thinking that we care too much. Still, that always works out to someone’s advantage. Whether or not that advantage is our own is rarely a concern of ours. That, in itself, is a part of being a Pisces that is both a blessing and a curse. We often put others before ourselves without much thought as to where that leaves us until after the fact. It is in remaining true to ourselves and our nature that the power to constantly give of ourselves (without reciprocation) dwells, and that is what makes us magical.
So, even though I complain that Love has been my enemy instead of my all, I won’t give up. And I know that I say that my heart makes me love too hard, care too much, and gets my feelings hurt, but in the end, none of the bad stuff matters. All that counts is that I am able to love myself as much as I love the world, care for myself as much as I care for the world, and that I make the most of my journey to find my healer. Besides, being a unicorn of the zodiac rocks!
