Androids Are Taking Over:
Motorola Droid Review

Written by: ^Northernstar*, Youth Director

I have never been a fan of touch screen phones because my fingers always seem to hit the wrong button on the keypad & I’m not as tech-savvy as others. So, when I was asked to review the new Motorola Droid paired with Verizon Wireless, my first reaction was, “Ohhh. Okay. Yeah... The Droid.”

It features a built in camera, competent of taking pictures at a 740 x 480 resolution… but, many have complained about the slowness of snapping. However, the quality is great!

The Droid is considered to be the new rival of a very popular Smartphone, Apple’s iPhone, and they both draw comparisons with their rectangular & thin shapes, but the Droid is about a hundred inches thicker than its opponent. The phone features touch sensitive buttons below the main screen (“menu”, “home”, “back” & “search”) and the slider reveals the keypad. The keypad is much easier to use than most touch-screen phones because it is reminiscent to the once popular Sidekick. It has a G-pad roller on the side to help you navigate on the phone, whether you want to read an e-mail, Google search or add a number to the phone contacts. The flat & small buttons work to my advantage considering the fact I have had a hard time typing on past Verizon Wireless phones, such as the Blackberry Storm & the Blackberry Tour. However, the users with thicker fingers may find it difficult. There is the option of making the keypad “Touch Screen” mode & the “Traditional” mode.

The display is the best attribute to the phone, which is 3.7 inches, in contrast to the 3.5 inches of the iPhone. Like many Smartphones, the Droid’s screen rotates when the phone is flipped from side to side. It features a built in camera, competent of taking pictures at a 740 x 480 resolution… but, many have complained about the slowness of snapping. However, the quality is great!

To all the Facebook(ers) & Twitter(s), they are already provided applications for the social networks… so, no need to go into “cold turkey”. And the sound on the phone is one of the best, if not THE BEST ever on a phone. The quality is compatible to a radio speaker in the house. Now, that’s saying A LOT!

If you aren’t originally a tech-savvy individual, the Droid might be for you because it is simpler & more manageable than any other phone I’ve seen!
